Using the public platform through extensive trips across the United States and Canada, as well as the pages of Aika, Kurikka propounded his advanced views. He opposed church-sanctioned marriage as a form of slavery for women. 
Born in 1863 and educated as far as university, Kurikka had for two decades been prominent in Finnish radical circles.
